Directions: From Rapid City take Highway 16 (Mt
Rushmore Rd) south 11.3 miles into Rockerville. Turn right on Silver
Mountain Rd. Drive 0.5 miles to the Flume Trailhead (Coon Hollow) on right.
The trail is near both Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Description: This trial was built specifically for mountain bikers. It is 11 miles of pure singletrack that offers everything a rider could want. The trail has smooth, fast winding singletrack, low angle downhills, rocky climbs sometimes technically challenging, rock drops, log rides and a few steep downhills. The trail winds through ponderosa and aspen forests and through a recovering forest fire area. This trail is so much fun! Loop: The trail starts to the left of the trailhead kiosk. (Do not take the Flume Trail to the right- it is only for hikers.) The trail is marked by orange arrow signs. At the first intersection go to the right in a counterclockwise direction. The return trail is to the left. You will cross a dirt road several times- just follow the orange signs. The trail ends with a super fun roller-coaster like downhill. Acme bikes does have a print out with explicit directions if needed. We had it but the orange markers followed the route to a “t”. More info: Acme Bikes; 605-343-9534 or www.acmebicycles.com |
