Directions - Mass Pike to exit 11A for 495
South, take 1st Exit 21B onto Hopkinton Rd (135 West) for 3.5 miles, right
on Westboro Rd for 2 miles, Park entrance on right. Description - Upton
is very similar to Hopkinton SP in that the trails are all very well marked
and maintained. Mad props to the MA forest rangers and whoever else helps
out. I guess that’s why our taxes are so high? There are not too many big
hills, but lots of ups and downs so you keep working. There are a few good
ones though. Try going up the Grouse, Mammoth Rock and Whistling cave trail
and you’ll be tired. These trails are great in either direction though.
Mostly all single track, only moderately technical with a bunch of tough
sections. There is one drop I can remember and Mammoth rock has a cool long slickrock downhill. Upton can be easily incorporated into an epic loop
through Whitehall SP and Hopkinton SP. Another good riding area to add to
this loop is the Peppercorn Hill area. It is a steep hill with a very tough
climb that leads to a great downhill. There was one new trail cut when I
rode there and a couple descent drops. Could be some freeride possibilities
in the future. |
