Lawn Boy, Dead Beat Steve and G-string…
2 years and 3 days since our last Ringwood adventure. Ringwood is the only place to ride in NJ – mileage, technicalities and many scenic areas. We finally all meet at parking lot C and proceed to find the racecourse for a quick 1hr. 15min. ride to allow sufficient carbo loading time. It ended 4hrs and 14 miles later. We found the red after an endless 5 switchback climb up the green. Down the first nasty downhill red and to the start of the schoolhouse ride. Deadbeat and LB stretching out as they walk #1. Then some sweet singletrack with a jump to boot. Up and up the fireroad to DBs earlier clipped-in wheelie flip (backwards). 2 years wiser he does not repeat the stunt. Right turn to the ridge/rocky/white trail which all riders show some skills on. The white downhill separates the men from the boys (which usually takes a crowbar in certain cultures) and it’s off to get stung by bees LB gets it on the head and DB on the back and G survives unscathed(this time). The fast Blue awaits with the occasional rock garden, one of which DB cleans as I stutter and fall (okay…I mentioned it …happy now Steve?!?!) We dread the green climb, as we should, and finally enjoy the downhill green over Pierson Ridge which has our forearms pumped like Popeye. Quick map check and it’s back to the car via white.
Big Props to our buddy Josh in the parking lot who humbly proceeded to pull every major trails maneuver … IN HIS FLIP-FLOPS
Rating…four fly smothered dead slug sidewalk smuges encircled by killer bees (yes the ones from that cheesy made-for-TV movie) scraped up and gingerly placed atop Steve’s 8oz. Burger!
