Nipmuck - sat. - seniore P, PMD and PM headed out to exit 69, listenting to none other than FIRESTARTER by prodigy (P - pionted out today). Heading out north on the nipmuk I snap my chain literally 50 ft from the car (we measured it), and I had a 2 minute tantrum, throwing my bike into the river (yes cry baby soup for me!). A quick fix and we are back on the trail for double diamond technicalities, trail maintenance and grey haired lesbians. Trail is very slow going, plus seniore P kept stopping for gladiator style trail maintenance. So we run into 3 kids that ask us if we are with the camp? - "nope", one of them look slike malike from children of the corn and later we learn he really was. 1/4 mile down the trail we smell smoke, and another 1/4 mile the blue trail is blocked by a wall of flames. So we huddle and come up with a game plan - I am pissed because A, I didnt bring any marshmellos and B I dont want this fire to screw up our ride. So I was the guinny pig to ride through the fire (yeah wheres the camera when you need it), holding my breath untill I reached the other side, the kevlar tires withstood the quick ride through smoldering embers. Luckily seniore P drank lots of water pre-ride so he put out 1/2 the fire pissalot style. PMD and P, followed my path through the fire (never follow the pukemaster - squared). To say we were smoking on the trail would not have been an exhaggeration. Ok - off to the trailer park we reluctantly tell them to call the fire department - they dont seem to concerned even though the fire is racing toward their homes. I wonder if they actually called or just decided to drive their homes away. Ok - f'em if they are too stupid - the ride goes on.. up the nipmuk hard right onto the natchaug. All 3 of us were on fire - no pun I assure you.. Technicalites going down like a 3 dollar whore - left and right. PMD cleans some 2.5 footers and takes the lead. P and I are getting hungry, tired etc.. A nice whipeout for me whaling my head, neck back leg etcc... I feel like a train ran me over, then minutes later over the bars.. TO the road for a 5 mile pavement tour (lots of... asphalt, some yellow lines, some white some churches, package stores and ...... dohhhhnuts) - Record time of 3.5 hours 18 miles (beat last years adventure by 2 hours!!).. Nice freakin ride - we plan to do the whole 45 mile loop this summer! 5 full, overflowing buckets of flaming, boiling puke!
