UT - Flying Monkey Trail - Smith Mesa - Mountain Bike Trail Review with Map and Pictures |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
DIErections - From Springdale, flanagans inn,
drive 15 miles west on 9 and take right on mesa road, 50 feet, park.. |
Forward +++ I am not worthy of this trail, but figured I would give some info to the rest of you with big balls, lots of talent and big bikes.. DOnt even think for a minute about going here if you don't have mad skillz and tons of confidence, not to mention good judgement.. Youll just get hurt or worse, injure your fancy bike.. I waked a good portion of the first steep section, lots of dabs and short walks after that, but some parts look more dangerouse to walk than ride - just ask GIMPY_D about walkin stuff.. I actually slid on my butt down one part - How FIng lame is that.. Description - Most insane technical free ride trail I have ever walked down.. Exposure to the max, an incredible trail for those with insane skillz.. The rest of us should just stay away.. I suggest you hike it first to make sure you want to ride it.. Wear full body armor, triple clamp and some serioso travel a must.. MAP IS VERY APPROXIMATE, my GPS got all messed up, not sure why, maybe the forces from above ?? Check out some singletrack from smith mesa on your way up, I saw some lines, some hucks etc etc... Loops - suggested as shuttle, we rode up smith mesa road, took 45 minutes (3.3 miles 1500 vert..), then at the fork go right, then take the second right about 1/4 mile down the road, follow this trail and look for a big rock huck on left, youll see tracks, then look for trail on entrance on right, we missed it first and took that road almost all the way to the end of smith mesa.. Once on the trail, there are branches to the right.. Getting out once your down is easy, just keep taking rights and straights on fire roads .. youll get back.. Pre-ride Music: |
