MD - Gambrill State Park (Catoctin Trail)- Mountain Bike Trail Review with Map and Pictures |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Directions - Just follow signs from route 70
east or west.. Gambrill is off route 40. Once you enter the
park, drive past the first parking lot, continue up hill to next gravel lot
on right where there are many trail heads. |
Description - Lots of fun rocky single track here.. We got the feeling we were in the right place as there were many downhill bikes heading for the top (push pull or tow).. Trails were somewhat buff close to the parking area but became increasingly technical further out.. Some awesome rock gardens with great lines.. Good ups, some focking great white knuckle downs, with mini fun airs, twisting technicalities.. Dam.. Couple nemesis technical uphills.. Found one nice log ride to devil horn 1.5 footer - yup it was like a dream.. You can also access the Catoctin trail from this park and head north for like 26 miles.. Checked out a bit of the blue Catoctin trail and it rocks.. Loops - For starters, ride the yellow loop CLOCKWISE from the gravel lot, make sure and take the extended loop, then the yellow becomes blue-yellow, to blue, back to car.. Great loop Pre-ride Music: Beetles
- Yellow submarine, or AC/DC back in black |
Total Miles: 15 miles plus |
Elevation Change Feet - 8 mile ride was 1600 ft |
